Denis McNamara – “The Objectivity of Beauty: Understanding the Realist Tradition”

Dr. Denis McNamara, Executive Director of the Center for Beauty and Culture at Benedictine College presented “The Objectivity of Beauty” at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Oakdale, MN. This introduction to the theology of Beauty helps answer the question of the “objectivity” of Beauty as understood in the Catholic tradition. In a world which sees beauty as radically subjective and therefore “in the eye of the beholder,” this interactive presentation will use music and images to introduce beauty as an attribute of Being, and therefore deeply connected with the reality of things as God created them. It will equip the listener to understand why Beauty is both subjective and objective, and how it can be discussed in daily life.
