John Canning & Co. on Authentic Church Restoration

Join us for a presentation by representatives from John Canning & Co.

John Canning & Co. is a decorative painting and ornamental plastering company based in Connecticut. The company focuses on historic preservation as well as the new design of period interiors across the United States. Canning Liturgical Arts is a branch of the company devoted to church restoration and beautification. The lecture will discuss how the different decorative trades, from gilding and stenciling to running moulds and plaster casts, come together to restore beauty to a historic interior. Canning continues to utilize traditional methods of the trade and pass on trade techniques through apprenticeships. Beginning with the preliminary design and research phase to the completed project, it is the role of the craftsman to bring the ideas of the architect and client into being. In addition to illustrating the design and restoration process, Canning will walk through the relationship of the decorative arts to architecture as well as introduce the many skilled craftsmen capable of bringing a watercolor rendering to life.

The presentation will be March 16 at 7:30 pm in McAllister Board Room, Fourth Floor, Ferrell Academic Center. Unable to join? Tune in on our Benedictine College Lectures YouTube channel.
